Relay Marathon

12.10.2025 / Start 10:00

Experience the autumn classic for the whole family: The ultimate running feeling, thousands of enthusiastic spectators, and a unique flair! Year after year, in October, the most popular run in the southwest of Austria takes place in Graz. At the foot of the Schlossberg, with the start and finish in front of the opera of Graz, the route passes the most beautiful squares of the Styrian capital and is therefore a running sightseeing tour. With numerous competitions taking place within this event, you don’t have to be a marathon runner to get your money’s worth. It does not matter if young or old, beginner or professionals, there is something for everyone. In this four-day event, sport and exercise are not the only things being foregrounded. Following the motto of “grab your running shoes and your shopping bag”, the shopping experience in the city centre of Graz is part of the experience.

Timekeeping

The net time (actual running time from start to finish line) will be used for the ranking. Results will be classified per relay category (female, male, mixed), each consisting of four runners per team. Award ceremonies and prizes will be given to the top three teams in each category.

Each relay team will receive a relay transponder with a Velcro strap, which must be worn exclusively on the wrist by each runner. The transponder must be handed over to the next runner at the designated exchange zones. Only the transponder records the total team time. In addition, every team member must wear a bib number.

A runner may run more than one section (maximum of 2), but in this case must wear both bib numbers. A marathon participant may also run the first relay section and then continue with their marathon after the handover (in this case, both bib numbers must also be worn). At each relay handover, the Velcro strap with the transponder must be passed on.

Starting order

The starting order will take place in the corresponding starting block at the Opern- or Burgnring. You will find a corresponding ID for the correct starting block on your bib number. Access to the starting blocks will be opened at 9am. Please find yourself in your starting block at least 15 minutes before the start. Starting in the wrong starting block will automatically lead to disqualification!
